4th of July 2013

The fourth is such a great time of year. It's my favorite holiday not only because I love America, but because the weather is usually nice and warm, even hot, there's lots going on with the community such as hot air balloons, festivals, parades, BBQs etc., and it's a good excuse to hang outdoors with my family, go to movies, and light fireworks. For me there's nothing better than having fun outdoors with my family in nice weather in shorts and T-shirts, with good food, and fun activities--it's great!

This year we got the boys up really early to go to the hot air balloon festival. The community gathers together early in the morning to watch giant hot air balloons prepare and lift off. It's a magical, colorful celebration of freedom. Stan and I have loved this tradition. We started when Gregory was only 3 weeks old. We got up and made it to this festival. We've tried to get there every year since, and it's always something I look forward to. This year, however, as we drove to downtown Provo the wind was blowing so hard that we knew the balloons would never launch. As we got closer, we rolled down our window and a neighbor of Stan's growing up told us that the balloons were canceled.

We drove back to Nelson's, where we are currently living, and crashed on the couches for a couple of hours after drinking some warm chocolate milk. The boys couldn't fall asleep so they watched Disney Junior cartoons until it was time to meet up with my family for a breakfast at the park. This is a fun tradition that they have been doing for several years now. We usually are a decently large group, but this year Lyndon and his family are in NYC, Sam couldn't make it, Maggie and Edward are serving missions...so all that was able to attend was the parents, Stan, Gregory, George, Ethan, Hannah and me. The eight of us had a good breakfast and a fun time playing baseball, soccer, catch and Frisbee. After that my parents and siblings went to the Lone Ranger, and we went to Star Trek. The boys loved it, we have watched almost every episode with them of the original Star Trek, so they knew who everyone was and really got into it.

Then we all went to my aunts house for an extended family BBQ. It was fun to see so many that I haven't seen for a while, and as usual, the food was excellent.

After that we went to our favorite spot to watch the Stadium of Fire fireworks. They were spectacular as usual, and I don't know why but there is something just simply wonderful about seeing fireworks light up the night sky. Sitting out on a blanket on a warm 4th of July evening drinking soda pop and snacking on gold fish crackers, good memories!

   HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

The first year of George's life.

Look what fun photos I found. Here is George as a baby, and Gregory when he was 2 1/2- 3 years old. Such cute boys! The year George was born we went camping all over Utah and spent lots of time outdoors! It was a fun year, so happy George was born into our family.
