How the IRISH say it!

Ireland was such a fun place to live. Some of my favourite phrases from living there are:

  • He's gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous!
  • Tanks (thanks)
  • Tanks a million
  • That's grand like
  • No bother
  • He's got a black tongue (he's lying)
  • He's got the head of... (He looks like...)
  • The ting is...
  • farty (forty)
  • that's a good boy/girl
  • well done!
  • he's sooo good like
  • car park  (parking lot)
  • walking path (sidewalk)
  • loads
  • are the boys coming out?  I heard this almost everyday :) This is how the neighbourhood kids ask if your kids can come outside and play with them.
  • cot (baby crib)
  • Moses basket (bassinet)
  • that's gas!(funny)
  • stunning!
  • brilliant!
  • geepers!
  • was it any use? (any good)
  • aw sure look it
  • aw stop!
  • runners (sneakers)
  • hotpress (the room where the boiler is, the Irish have shelves here to dry ones' clothes)
  • jumper (sweater)
  • chips (french fries)
  • chipper (a fast food restaurant where there is no seating, just take away, and the food is mainly fish and chips, there might be some battered sausages with chips, and other fried food like a deep fried burritos. Everything is fried in Ireland.
  • boot (car trunk)

Life is like a cup of tea, it's all in how you make it!

May the leprechauns be near you,
To spread luck along your way.
And may all the Irish angels,
Smile upon you St. Patrick's Day.

May you have:
No frost on your spuds,
No worms on your cabbage.
May your goat give plenty of milk.
And if you inherit a donkey,
May she be in foal.
